33. Dial-Up Silence
Do you frequently go online during the wee hours of the night? Would you like to make sure you won't send that deafening dial-up screech through the entire house? Then silence your modem speaker.
Open the Control Panel and double-click Modems. Select your modem, click Properties, and move the lever under Speaker volume all the way left to None. Click OK twice, and from now on, regardless of how you (or anyone else) has set the volume on the modem itself, that modem won't make a peep.
(Note: Not all modems support this setting.)
